Easy guideline for a skincare routine
While there is no one-size-fits-all skincare routine, most people discover what products and steps work best for their skin type and lifestyle over time. That said, every effective routine typically begins with cleansing.
Basic Skincare Routine
1. Cleanse:
Cleansing is essential—especially at night—to remove makeup, dirt, oil, sweat, and environmental pollutants. This not only keeps pores clear but also preps the skin to better absorb subsequent products like serums, moisturisers, and hydrators.
A gentle cleanse in the morning is also beneficial, as it helps remove dead skin and excess sebum that accumulate overnight during the skin’s natural restoration process. There are many types of facial cleansers available, each tailored to specific skin types or concerns, making it easier to find one that suits your individual needs.
2. Tone/Facial Mist:
A toner or facial mist can be a beneficial step in both your morning and evening skincare routine. It is typically applied after cleansing and before moisturising. Always choose a toner or mist that suits your skin type or addresses a specific concern, such as dryness, sensitivity, or excess oil. These products help to rebalance the skin, provide light hydration, and prepare the skin to better absorb serums, moisturisers, and other treatments.
3. Serums:
This is the time to apply serums if you are using any. The order would be light water-based serums first then emulsion-based. Serums include high-performance active ingredients. They are not an alternative to your moisturisers but can be layered with other products and to complement them.
4. Moisturise:
Moisturisers play a crucial role in hydrating the skin and locking in moisture, as well as sealing in the active ingredients from previously applied products like serums. They help prevent dryness by boosting the skin's hydration levels and supporting the skin’s natural barrier to retain moisture throughout the day or night.
5. Facial Oil- Oil based serums:
Oil-based serums can be used after applying moisturiser to nourish, moisturise and soften the skin.
6. Sunscreen:
In the morning apply sunscreen and re-apply every 2 hours.
